Laurens Spethmann Holding: entering the Turkish tea business
The food company Laurens Spethmann Holding AG & Co. KG (LSH) is strengthening its international activities. The family-run company which includes the Ostfriesische Tee Gesellschaft with its Meßmer and Milford tea brands, will also be active in future in Turkey, the third largest tea market in Europe. LSH intends to form a joint venture for this purpose with the leading Turkish FMCG group Yildiz Holding (owner of Ülker brand). LSH will hold a 50 per cent stake in the Yildiz Holding subsidiary Enfes Gida Imalat ve Ticaret A.S., whose tea brands include Obacay and Doga, and also intends to purchase Deren. The joint venture will require the consent of the Turkish Monopolies and Mergers Commission, once established.
